Se reforzó el aspecto festivo del Jazz Band Ball inaugural, en el que tocaron varias bandas de Nueva Orleans y fueron servidos platos típicos de esa ciudad cuna del jazz: jambalaya, gumbo y crawfish (cangrejo). En los conciertos estelares actuaron figuras de primera fila: Elvin Jones, Don Pullen, Etta James, Charlie Haden, John McLaughlin, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Joshua Redman… Además, los músicos latinos, representados por Danilo Pérez, David Sánchez y Gonzalo Rubalcaba, homenajearon a Dizzy Gillespie, cuya foto presidía el escenario. También se desarrollaron algunas actividades paralelas, como un seminario de canto y una exposición de carteles de jazz.
